DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina man wanted in connection with the shooting of an off-duty deputy has been arrested.
Jerry Lamont Harris Jr., of Durham, was taken into custody Thursday at a home in the city, more than two months after the shooting placed him on Durham County’s “most wanted” list, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Authorities had issued a Blue Alert in November for the 26-year-old suspect.

On Nov. 14, an off-duty Durham County deputy was taken to the hospital after several shots were fired into his car. The deputy has since returned back to work, according to the sheriff’s office.
The department has not released the name of the deputy.
Four days after the shooting, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of 23-year-old Armand Lewis-Langston. He is facing federal and state charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder.
Harris faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. He was on federal probation at the time of the shooting, authorities said, and has had prior arrests in Durham County.
Harris is being held without bond. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
Blue Alerts are issued when an officer is injured or killed. Officials said certain criteria must be met in order for a blue alert to be sent:
- A law enforcement officer is killed or suffers serious injury
- A law enforcement agency with jurisdiction determines that the suspect poses a threat to the public and other law enforcement personal and has information that may help finding the suspect
- The head of a law enforcement agency with jurisdiction recommendation the issuance of a blue alert to The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons
The FBI helped investigate the case and had offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Harris’ arrest.
This is an ongoing investigation. Check back with wsoctv.com for updates.
