Man shot by officer in Mint Hill, police say

MINT HILL, N.C. — Police said they shot one person along Matthews-Mint Hill Road on Wednesday night.

A man called 911 and said that he was suicidal.  He then fired a shot and hung up, police said.

Police said when they arrived, the man fired in their general direction. They returned fire and hit him in the shoulder.

Police said the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

No officers were hurt. The officer who fired the shot is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Matthews-Mint Hill Road was shut down until Thursday morning around 6:15 a.m. while police investigated the incident.
