CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the past 28 days, 15 people and businesses have been robbed in the Steele Creek area, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Steele Creek Division Capt. Rob Dance told Channel 9 that robberies are up 28 percent over the five-year average. However, Dance said his officers are solving those cases at an unprecedented rate.
Eleven of the 15 cases have been cleared by arrest, the captain said.
Dance said the clearance rate for recent crimes is about 86 percent, which is nearly three times the normal rate.
"They've been able to set up good perimeters, have an eye out for things stolen, notice activity,” Dance said.
One case solved was the robbery of a Best Buy in the Rivergate Shopping Center.
Officers said five people were charged in that case and that one had an outstanding warrant for attempted murder and two were gang members.
