Officials: Man arrested, charged with murder in Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — The Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in connection to a missing person case.
 
Jessie Gary Rhodes was charged with the murder of James Michael Beam and has been placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond; until a first court appearance hearing on Dec. 21. 
 
Officials began investigating a missing person case, involving Beam; in July 2015.
 
Beam was reported to have not been seen since around Easter 2015, according to reports.  
 
Beam, 57, lived in Richfield, North Carolina.  
 
During the course of the investigation, Rowan County Sheriff's Office Investigators received information that Beam had been killed.
 
On Sunday, Dec. 12, hunters discovered the decomposed remains of a human on the side of a hill, located off of Bringle Ferry Road, near River Road.
 
RCSO investigators and the North Carolina State Medical Examiner's Office were able to identify the remains as Beam.  
 
This investigation is still ongoing, and we will update as new information becomes available.
