Officials: Man arrested in sweepstakes scheme

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Federal investigators arrested a Costa Rican man they said was part of a sweepstakes scheme involving Charlotte.

Investigators said Marco Hernandez had all his wire transfers routed and processed in Charlotte, according to a criminal complaint.

Officials said Hernandez would tell victims they won prize money but they needed to send him money for refundable insurance fees and taxes.
