Olde Meck Brewery gets key approval for major expansion along Catawba River

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — A major planned expansion by The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery took a big step forward this week as it secured approval from city leaders in Mount Holly.

The brewery will buy a former water-treatment facility along the Catawba River, where it plans to build a sprawling beer garden and restaurant similar to its flagship location in Charlotte’s lower South End.

As CBJ reported in June, OMB expects to invest about $4.3 million in the expansion. The project will include a roughly 5,000-square-foot “brewery restaurant,” founder John Marrino said at the time.
