'It breaks my heart’: Olympic High School senior seriously hurt in shooting

CHARLOTTE — A 17-year-old Olympic High School senior was taken to a hospital after he was seriously hurt in a shooting in southwest Charlotte.

“It breaks my heart,” neighbor Mozella Thompson said. “We’re living in a time when there is no respect for each other, no love for each other, and there needs to be a change.”

The teen was shot by someone he didn’t know at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Village apartments, officials said.

"I've lived in Steele Creek area for 20 years and it's never been this type of activity going on in this area, so it is surprising," Thompson said.

Nearby residents said they heard gunshots and watched cars speeding away from the scene.

“I think this generation is just really brutal," one neighbor said.

The student was taken to Atrium Health and his condition is unclear. His name was not released.
