CHARLOTTE — New Census Bureau estimates show the Charlotte metro area is closing in on three million residents.

The region added 278,000 people between April 2020 and July 2025, making it the seventh‑fastest‑growing metro in the country.

From July 2024 to July 2025 alone, the metro gained 54,000 new residents.

This is a jump surpassed only by Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Phoenix, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
