CHARLOTTE — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in west Charlotte Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened just before1 p.m. on Celia Avenue off Beatties Ford Road.
When officers got to the area, they found 21-year-old Devonte Washington with a gunshot wound. MEDIC took him to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting and no arrests have been made.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said Northwest School of the Arts, which is near the scene of the shooting, was briefly placed on lockdown while officers investigated.
