CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Troopers are investigating a two-car crash that left one person dead Tuesday night in Chesterfield County.
The wreck happened around 7 p.m. on Hartsville Ruby Road, nearly five miles north of Patrick.
Troopers said a driver crossed the center line and hit an oncoming car head-on.
The driver who crossed the line was not wearing a seat belt and was killed.
The victim was 81-year-old Mitchell Smith.
A passenger in the other car was also hurt. That person's condition has not been released.
Troopers have not yet said what caused the driver to cross the center line.
