Panthers allow most points in franchise history in 52-21 loss to Steelers

PITTSBURGH — The Carolina Panthers were dominated in Pittsburgh Thursday night, ending a three-game win streak.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw two touchdown passes, but was sacked five times, in their 52-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night at Heinz Field.

Carolina tied for the most points allowed in its franchise history.

The Panthers (6-3)  had an interception returned for a touchdown and lost a fumble deep in their territory late in the third quarter.

Former Mallard Creek standout Jaylen Samuels extended the Steelers' lead to 52-14 when he scored on a 6-yard touchdown reception with 14:55 remaining in the game.

Running back Christian McCaffrey had all three Panthers' touchdowns.

Despite McCaffrey's two first-half touchdowns, the Panthers fell behind 31- 14 at halftime.

McCaffrey put the Panthers on top with a 20-yard touchdown reception on their opening drive.

However, Pittsburgh answered quickly as Ben Roethlisberger connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass to Juju Smith-Schuster.

Antonio Brown caught a touchdown pass, James Conner ran for a score and Vince Williams returned an interception 17 yards to give the Steelers a 17-point cushion at halftime.
