CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County Health Department inspector recently gave Park Road Montessori an 81 for a health grade.
The inspection found insect eggs in the refrigerator in the music room, a rotted hole in the boy’s restroom, pink buildup around water fountain nozzles and dead cockroaches in the kitchen.
Parent Andrew Blake said he was surprised to learn about the conditions.
"The health of the students is one of the most important things, so I guess they will have to look at this and do something about it," Blake said.

He said he likes Park Road Montessori despite the health inspection results.
"We've been very impressed,” he said. “The teachers are phenomenal and the school has such a nurturing environment."
“CMS Building services works to provide a clean and safe learning environment for all students and staff at all CMS properties,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said in a statement. “Building Services staff create work orders for all issues cited in health inspections and treat these as urgent work orders with a response time of 48 hours. The recent health inspections help to identify areas of concern. CMS wants to assure families that the goal is that all schools would receive an inspection score of 90 or above.”

Parent Jolena James-Szanton said the reports may reveal a bigger problem.
"So, I tend to be on the side of this is not a Park Road (Montessori) problem or a CMS problem,” James-Szanton said. “It's a community problem. Do we have enough funding for these things? Some people say, 'Yes, I'm sure.’ Some would say, ‘No.’"
