People visit MLK statue in Gastonia days after fence taken down

GASTONIA, N.C. — Millions are remembering the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year’s holiday took on added significance after last summer’s protests around the country.

Since the protests, the MLK monument in Gastonia had been behind a chain-link fence.

The fence was recently taken down so people can get closer to the monument.

In the video at the top of this webpage, Channel 9′s Ken Lemon spoke with people who see the monument as a beacon of hope.
