PINEVILLE, N.C. — The mysterious Mega Millions winner from Pineville has come forward.

The winner, David Morris, had an unorthodox approach when it came to picking his winning numbers by asking his kids to choose, a decision that won him $1 million on Tuesday.

Morris says he normally doesn’t play Mega Millions but found out about his luck after a winning ticket was announced in Pineville, that no one had claimed. He says he started hyperventilating and even called his wife home from work.

Morris was able to match all five numbers to secure the $1 million prize. He bought the winning ticket from a 7-Eleven on South Polk Street in Pineville.

On Friday, Morris claimed his prize. After state and federal taxes, he took home $712,501.

He says he plans to use his winnings to buy some land in the Smoky Mountains, where his wife is originally from.
