CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A flight from Indianapolis to Charlotte had to return to the airport after blowing a tire, according to an official with US Airways.
US Air Express Flight 2685, operated by Mesa Airlines, was taking off when crews heard a loud thumping noise, according to an official.
Following protocol, the pilots continued until they reached a safe altitude. They circled Indianapolis to burn excess fuel. After enough fuel was burned off, the flight landed normally.
The local fire department inspected the craft after landing and found one of the six tires on the plane had blown out.
Passengers were taken off the plane and back to the terminal. Seventy-eight passengers and three crew members were on board.
