Man found dead after crash, president of Performance Springs Inc.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C.,None — Emergency workers in Rowan County recovered the body late Saturday morning of Steve Brown from the underwater wreckage of his four-seater Cessna 350 plane, which crashed Friday afternoon into High Rock Lake.

Brown was president of Performance Springs Inc., a company with strong ties to the racing industry.

The single-engine plane crashed in High Rock Lake around 2 p.m. Friday, killing Bown and Karyn Martin. Her body was recovered from the lake about an hour after the plane went down.

The Cessna Columbia 350 took off from the Davidson County airport about 1:15 p.m. Friday, heading for Florida, and was only in the air briefly before crashing. Reports said the plane's landing gear was still down.

 Neighbors said the crash could have been much worse.

"It could have hit somebody's house, the store, it could have hit so many things," said Yonts.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
