ORANGBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A plane headed for Columbia crashed in a field in Orangeburg County on Saturday morning, federal authorities told The State Newspaper.
The National Transportation Safety Board is reporting that one person was killed in this accident.
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said, “a single-engine Beech BE-35 crashed in a field about 6 miles from the Orangeburg Municipal Airport around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.”
The Director of Marketing for Columbia Metropolitan Airport Kim Crafton told The State Newspaper that the plane was en route to the Jim Hamilton-L.B. Owens Airport and not the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
This accident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department is also assisting with the investigation, according to The State Newspaper.
