Police: 2 dead after Salisbury crash

SALISBURY, N.C. — Two teenagers died after a crash in Salisbury involving a Jeep, moped and a box truck.

The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday on Jake Alexander Boulevard, near Dan Street.

Police said two people were riding on a moped with no lights on. A Jeep hit the moped, knocking it into the travel lane of a box truck, officials said.

Police said the 18-year-old driver of the moped died at the scene. The 19-year-old passenger on the moped was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Officials said the driver of the box truck was cited for no operator's license.  No other charges have been filed.
