Albemarle police search for suspect in deadly shooting

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — The Albemarle Police Department is searching for a suspect in connection with a homicide that happened around 1 a.m. Friday at a housing complex on Elizabeth Avenue.

Police said they were called to the area to conduct a wellness check.

At the scene, 47-year-old Duane Lamont Perry was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to police.

Perry was visiting the housing unit, police said.

Otis Eugene Burns is wanted and charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling

The circumstances surrounding this shooting are unknown at this time.
