Police investigating shooting into NC Congressional candidate’s parents’ home

HICKORY, N.C. — Hickory Police say they’re investigating a shooting into a family home of a North Carolina Congressional candidate.

According to a police report, the shooting happened at a home belonging to Pat Harrigan’s parents. Police said a shot was fired into a laundry room window.

Harrigan’s parents said the shooting happened on Oct. 18 and that they heard the gunshot.

According to the Associated Press, two of Harrigan’s children had been staying with their grandparents in Hickory during the campaign cycle.

“It’s just disconcerting, especially with the children there,” Marla Harrigan told the AP. “This campaign is so stressful, and we feel so badly for our son because, you know, he’s terribly stressed about his children ... and now they’re gone, they’re not with their parents and it’s just very, very disruptive.”

Nobody was injured in the shooting, but Harrigan, who’s running to represent North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District, sent a statement to Channel 9 in response.

“I’m focused on fixing the economy, lowering prices, and keeping our streets safe. And it’ll take more than a bullet and death threats to knock this Green Beret off that mission,” Harrigan’s statement said in part.

It’s not clear if Harrigan or the house was the intended target. No suspects have been identified.
