CHARLOTTE — A man was killed Sunday morning after a wreck involving two vehicles on Interstate 77 in north Charlotte, police said.

Officers responded to the crash around 2:15 p.m. near mile marker 13, where they found a Chrysler and a Dodge in the road. The driver of the Dodge, 32-year-old Lamac De Arthur Nelson, died at the scene, according to officials.

Investigators said Nelson was traveling north on I-77 in the right lane when he struck the Chrysler from behind. According to police, he was driving recklessly and speeding when the wreck happened.

The Chrysler then struck a concrete retaining barrier on the I-85 overpass bridge, spinning 360 degrees before stopping. The Dodge traveled along the barrier for another 800 feet before coming to a stop.

Officers said speed and impairment are suspected factors for Nelson with a toxicology test pending.

No other details have been released at this point.
