Police: Owner uses restaurant in EBT fraud scheme

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man used his southeast Charlotte restaurant to fraudulently collect food stamps, police said.

Thomas Taylor would swipe customer's EBT cards at the Sandwich Shop Restaurant on Sam Drenan Road and take a portion of the money for himself, according to authorities.

Police arrested Taylor Monday after an 18-month investigation and seized his EBT machines, cash and a stolen gun.

He was charged with 11 counts of felony accessing a government computer, 11 counts of felony illegal possession or use of electronic food and nutrition benefits and 11 counts of misdemeanor illegal possession or use of electronic food and nutrition benefits.
