Police arrest man accused of shooting at another driver in Rock Hill

CHARLOTTE — Police have arrested a suspect who they said shot at another driver in Rock Hill early Sunday morning.

A 27-year-old man told officers that while he was stopped at the intersection of Bose Avenue and Chandler Drive, another car cut him off. He then honked his horn, and that was when he said the other driver started shooting at him. Authorities found five gunshot holes in the victim’s car. The man also had an abrasion under his right arm from one of the bullets.

After searching for the suspect earlier in the week, the Rock Hill Police Department announced on Tuesday that 30-year-old Sherif Ahmad Laguda was identified as the person who shot at the victim.

Police say Laguda is facing charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody on Tuesday, and police say they also seized a firearm “that is believed to be the weapon used during the shooting.”

Rock Hill Police didn’t release a possible motive behind the shooting.

According to criminal court records in South Carolina, Laguda was convicted of assault with intent to kill in 2010 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
