Police: Student stabbed in head with scissors after fight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One student was stabbed with a pair of scissors after a fight broke out Monday afternoon in west Charlotte, police said.

Parents and neighbors who spoke to Eyewitness news wanted to know how something like that was not prevented.

As the dismissal bell rang, police, fire and paramedics rushed to a call of a student stabbing outside the school.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District said a seventh-grader stabbed an eighth-grader, in the head with a pair of scissors. Both students go to Ashley Park.

Shelia Caldwell has a 4-year-old at the school and she was furious that such a violent incident happened feet from where she was picking up her son.

"I couldn't get to the back of the school because there were ambulances, fire trucks, paramedics on scene because they say a child got stabbed by another child with scissors," she said.

Police arrested the seventh-grader. The victim was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

Bernard Boadi has lived across the street from the school for 13 years. He said he has never seen anything like what happened at Ashley Park.

"That is sad. That is really sad. I did not expect anything like that," he said.

Eyewitness News has been asking police and school officials all night what led to this attack, and so far they have not been able to answer.

Parents just said that they never want it to happen again.

"He should not have even seen a child being attacked with scissors, knife, gun or anything," said Shelia Caldwell.

Eyewitness News checked with CMS on Monday night to ask if the attacker will be expelled.

The district said the will likely only suspend the student based on the student handbook.
