YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Narcotics officers found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside a Rock Hill hotel room Thursday.
Investigators used a search warrant to look through the room at the Quality Inn on Cherry Road. They thought the occupants may have been operating a meth lab.
While officers didn't find a meth lab, they did charge 27-year old Danny Gay-Oliver and 26-year old Jordan Packer with possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of marijuana.
Months of surveillance led them to believe the couple was connected to a meth-making ring invading York County hotels.
"Most cooks we've been dealing with have been jumping from hotel to hotel here in the area," said Lt. Mike Ligon of the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit in York County.
Officers didn't find a meth lab in the Quality Inn room, but last week the Hillside Inn on Anderson Road in Rock Hill had to be evacuated.
In a room there, officers found a large amount of meth and devices used to make it.
They say more meth-makers are bringing the highly explosive chemicals into local hotels and staying for weeks.
"It's quick, it's not traceable," said Ligon.
Robert Catoe and Heather Latham were arrested in connection with last week's lab.
Officers said Thursday that there have been about 12 meth lab busts over the past 12 months in York County.
The year before there were about seven.
