Police track down third suspect connected to Circle K robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A third suspect accused of trying to rob a southeast Charlotte gas station at gunpoint has been arrested.

Demarshea Redfern has been charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, four counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Several weeks prior, police arrested two suspects, Rashaan Bauer and Davilyn McCollum.

Police said that around 2:40 a.m. on September 14, they were called to an armed robbery at the Circle K on Monroe Road at Covedale Drive.

Officers spotted the suspects' car shortly after the robbery and were able to take a person into custody immediately.

About two hours later, police tracked down McCollum, who they said was connected to the crime.

Only Channel 9 was there when police caught McCollum on Woodscape Drive, about a mile from the gas station. Officials said he ran from police but K-9 units were able to track him down in a nearby neighborhood.

Police said they had to shock him with a Taser.

Security video captured the robbery at the Circle K, and officers will be going over the footage.

Eddie Wright said he stops at the Circle K on Monroe road so often that he's struck up a sense of camaraderie with the clerks.

“I just gave one of the employees a jersey that I had a few days ago because he liked it so much,” Wright said. “It's a very nice store.”

Customers are concerned for their safety after the incident at their neighborhood convenience store.

“Makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable, possibly unsafe, I guess I got keep on the lookout,” Adara Linares said.
