Portion of North Tryon Street blocked after bicyclist hit by car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police had to block a section of North Tryon Street in the University City area early Monday morning after a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle.

Officers said the collision happened just after 5 a.m.

The cyclist was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries, officials said.

Police had to block the inbound lanes of North Tryon Street at W.T Harris Boulevard but reopened the roadway around 6:30 a.m.

Officers said the driver who hit the cyclist remained at the scene.

Police have not said if any charges will be filed.
