Incumbent Meck County district attorney wins primary; will have no challenger in November

CHARLOTTE, NC — Incumbent Spencer Merriweather - who was appointed to the district attorney position last year by Gov. Roy Cooper - defeated challenger Toussaint Romaine in a landslide victory in Tuesday night’s primary election.

Merriweather had 43,004, or 77.8 percent, of the votes and Romaine had 12,246, or 22.1 percent, of the votes.

Merriweather will be the only candidate for the DA race on the ballot in November.

The results are unofficial and ballots still need to be canvassed.
