‘Relentless investigation’ leads to pair charged in Charlotte man’s 2018 slaying

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged two suspects in the shooting death of a man more than two years after the crime.

On Monday, CMPD announced that Juan Deras Escalante, 21, and Mario Jose Ramirez-Duarte, 20, have been charged with the murder of Tyron Jodie Ervin, who was gunned down in December of 2018.

“Relentless investigation by homicide detectives” led to CMPD identifying both Escalante and Ramirez-Duarte as suspects in the case, CMPD said.

Escalante was already in custody for murder on an unrelated case, police said.

Ramirez-Duarte was found on Sunday and arrested without incident.

Officers were called to Fishers Pond Drive, not far from Pineville-Matthews Road, just before noon on Dec. 17, 2018. When they arrived, police found Ervin, 22. He had been shot several times and died at the scene.

No motive has been released and the homicide remains under investigation.
