Renderings of Charlotte’s first electric fire station released

CHARLOTTE — The first look at Charlotte’s first electric fire station was released this week.

The Charlotte Fire Department tweeted a rendering of the Station 30 project. It will be located at 3019 Beam Road, across the street from the Police and Fire Training Academy.

Channel 9 reported last spring that the city has set aside more than $20 million to build five new stations this year.

One of those stations is Station 30, which according to the city, will house Charlotte’s first electric fire truck.

The electric fire station is included in the budget as part of the $20.8 million set aside for building new fire facilities. The city’s budget says Charlotte will be one of the first cities in the country to make this investment.

“The budget is for one fire truck, charging apparatus and additional building elements to make it fully electric, and we are happy to share more details as we get closer to design and development,” spokesperson Cory Burkarth said in May.

The station is in the advance planning stage, so a construction date has not been determined yet. Similar projects take 12-18 months to plan and design.
