ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison under South Carolina’s new fentanyl trafficking laws after being found guilty of trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine.
According to the Rock Hill Herold, 39-year-old Londell Lashun Alston received the sentence from Visiting Judge Keith Kelly in York County criminal court following a three-day trial.
Alston was stopped by Rock Hill police in 2023, leading to the discovery of over 2,000 fentanyl pills, more than three pounds of heroin, and 425 grams of methamphetamine.
“People’s lives are being destroyed by fentanyl,” said 16th Circuit Senior Solicitor Marina Hamilton after the verdict. “It’s an epidemic and we are doing all we can to stop it.”
The case marks what is believed to be the longest prison sentence in York County under the recent fentanyl trafficking laws, which mandate a 25 to 40-year sentence for the amount of fentanyl involved. Alston was found not guilty of two weapon charges related to the same incident.
Alston plans to appeal the guilty verdicts and sentencing, according to his lawyer, Matthew Niemiec.
