Suspect arrested after deadly shooting in Rock Hill, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill Police Department says a man is in custody after a deadly shooting that occurred over the weekend.

Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, police said they responded to a home on Roddey Street after hearing gunshots in the area.

At the home, Arthur James McCoy, Jr., age 47, was found on the ground with gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from an argument involving 44-year-old Quadir Sharyf Baxter.

McCoy allegedly intervened in the argument, which led to him being hit by gunfire. Baxter then left the scene, according to police.

Police said warrants for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime have been issued for Baxter.

Baxter was wanted Monday morning, but he turned himself in at the Rock Hill Law Center later the same day, RHPD said just after 1 p.m.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
