Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions expanding in Mooresville

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — In 2018, Doug Yates made a bold play to diversify his company’s business.

His father, NASCAR Hall of Famer Robert Yates, died in 2017 and his mother planned to sell the former Yates Racing team shop in Mooresville. Doug, the CEO of Roush Yates Engines, saw an opportunity to use his company’s manufacturing capabilities to further venture into industries outside of racing.

Yates decided Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions, which was founded in 2008 as a division of Roush Yates Engines, would move into the 88,000-square-foot building. The company renovated the space into a world-class manufacturing facility after moving from its previous home of around 30,000 square feet across the street. With the facility ready in 2018, Yates knew it was time to ramp up the company’s diversification efforts in manufacturing.

Yates said Tuesday that the company has doubled its revenue each of the last three years. Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions began with making engine parts using its CNC manufacturing capabilities. That comprised about 90% of its business starting off, Yates said. Now, the division’s business includes around 90% of external work and it has ventured into the defense, aerospace and industrial sectors.

With its manufacturing business rapidly growing, the division is now expanding its Mooresville operations. The company’s background in making racing engines set it up well to diversify, Yates said.
