GREENVILLE, S.C. — (AP) — A woman running with her dog on a South Carolina sidewalk has been struck and killed by a SUV whose occupants all ran away after the crash, authorities said.
Brittany Langley Lawson, 38, and her dog both died shortly after they were struck around 7:15 a.m. Saturday in Greenville on Augusta Street, Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said.
The SUV crossed two lanes of traffic before jumping the curb and hitting Lawson, Evans said in a statement.
The people inside left the area before police arrived, the coroner said.
Investigators have not announced any arrests.
The wreck happened on a narrow stretch of four-lane road with a speed limit of 30 mph (48 kph).
Former Greenville City Council Member Garry Coulter lives just a few doors down and said the road has long been dangerous.
“Enforcement of the speed limit, better signal control would help. A simple median could have saved a life today,” Coulter said in a statement to WHNS-TV.
