SC 13-year-old arrested, charged for pouring cooking oil on skating rink floor

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill Police said they arrested and charged a male teen after he poured cooking oil on the floor of Kate's Skating Rink, our news partners at the Rock Hill Herald reported.

The teen reportedly told police he did it because he "thought it would be funny."

Lt. Michael Chavis from the Rock Hill Police Department said the male teen was charged as a juvenile with vandalism Friday afternoon. He was later released into the custody of his mother.

The Herald obtained a a police incident report which revealed Kate's had to refund more than $600 to guests and skaters because the rink had to close.

The rink's manager Laura Davis said the teen's mother made him come back to the rink Friday to help clean up the floors.

"His mother brought the cleaning supplies and made him help clean it up," Davis said.

The skating rink was forced to close, but was able to reopen later Friday afternoon once the floor was clean.

Kate's Skating Rink is on Celanese Road in Rock Hill, S.C.
