CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 300 Charlotte preschoolers will have to wait at least two weeks to start class.
The HEADSTART program at the Tryon Hills Pre-K Center was supposed to begin this week. But school officials delayed the start date because the school still does not have a state license to operate.
William McDonald, the executive director of the Bethlehem Center, said the group leased the building from CMS last year, agreeing to pay the maintenance costs.
To open the preschool, they had to rid the building of lead paint and make other safety improvements.
He said they've done the work, but are still waiting on an inspection from the city and state.
"It's hard for us to give (parents) a hard date because we're waiting on information from the state of North Carolina," McDonald said.
McDonald hopes the school can open during the week of Sept. 10.
