CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police believe human remains that were found by an elementary school teacher on Valentine’s Day in north Charlotte are those of a man who was reported missing last summer.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were called just before 3 p.m. to the 4900 block of Hucks Road, near West Sugar Creek Road, after a teacher at Croft Community Elementary School found what appeared to be human remains in the woods.

Authorities said the teacher was retrieving a ball that had gone over a fence while students were playing outside and made the discovery.
While CMPD is still waiting on positive identification from the medical examiner’s office, investigators said in a release that the remains appear to be Sam Davis, 25, who was reported missing in the same area July 3, 2018.
Detectives said they found no signs of trauma and are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Davis was last seen walking from a home on Poplar Grove Drive carrying a mini skateboard, which family members said he used to get around on.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
