BANNER ELK, N.C. — Eight condos were destroyed in an overnight fire near Banner Elk.
It happened around 10 p.m. at The Vistas along Penny Lane.
Every fire department in Avery County, along with some from Tennessee, responded to battle the flames.
Firefighters said four of the eight damaged units were occupied at the time of the fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Fire investigators believe the blaze started in the attic of one of the units and began to spread. They do not suspect any foul play and believe the fire was accidental.
Channel 9’s Dave Faherty learned the condominiums do have a sprinkler system in place but not in the attic where the fire broke out.
