STATESVILLE, N.C. — Several people, including students, were hurt Friday morning in a crash involving a school bus in Iredell County.
The wreck happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Houpe Road and Shumaker Drive in Statesville, according to an official with Iredell-Statesville Schools.

The school district said bus 255, heading to East Iredell Middle School, was hit by an SUV.
According to the Highway Patrol, a 2006 Mazda Tribute was heading south on Shumaker Drive and the school bus was heading in the opposite direction. The bus slowed down to turn right onto Houpe Road when the Mazda crossed the double-yellow centerline and sideswiped the bus.
The driver of the Mazda, 52-year-old Jonathan Davis, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, investigators said.
State troopers said there were two adults and 26 students on the bus. The bus driver and nine students were taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The school district said students on the bus who were not hurt waited with East Iredell Middle School’s principal while another bus came to pick them up and took them to school.
Davis has been charged with driving left of center.
Troopers said they are still investigating why the Mazda crossed the centerline.
