Snyder’s-Lance worker walking to car after shift hit, killed by company truck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after they said a Snyder’s-Lance employee was hit and killed Thursday night by a truck driven by another employee.

Officers were called to the Snyder’s-Lance property around 10:50 p.m. Investigators said the collision happened near the loading docks.

According to detectives, a 2015 Autocar XSpotter truck was entering the loading dock area to retrieve a trailer. At the same time, the victim, 56-year-old Robert Sledzewski, had ended his shift and was walking to his vehicle through the area where the loading dock was.

According to investigators, the loading dock area is poorly lit and Sledzewski was wearing his navy-colored Lance Snyder uniform.

As the driver of the truck turned into the loading dock area, he did not see Sledzewski and hit him with the front of the vehicle.

Police found no evidence of impairment and also said that speed was not a factor in the crash. There are no charges pending against the driver.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration was called to investigate since the incident was a workplace death.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
