Father dies days after son in Morganton double shooting

MORGANTON, N.C. — Burke County authorities say a father who was seriously injured in a shooting that also killed his son has died days later in a hospital in Charlotte.

The shooting happened inside a home on Ross Street in Morganton.

Officers said 19-year-old Jacob Lor was pronounced dead at the scene. The second shooting victim, his father, was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, where he later died from his injuries.

The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Pheng Lee,  left the area on a bicycle after the shooting, according to Morganton Public Safety.

Officers said they did a reverse 911 call to let those living in the area know about the shooting and that they were looking for the suspect.

According to officials, Lee was arrested while riding a bike 7 miles away from the shooting scene. He has been charged with murder.

“He was just riding, casually riding along, pedaling his bicycle," witness Tina Hudson said. "Just casually riding.”

According to search warrants, Lee still had a gun on him when he was stopped by police.

Channel 9 learned that dashcam video captured Lee pedaling away from the home.  At the time, the arriving officer didn’t know he was a suspect in the double shooting.

Local news outlets questioned Lee as he was being transported Saturday afternoon and asked him if he "felt bad about it" or had anything to say.

Lee said, "All I have to say is: You touch me, you dead."

Tony Paccettie said he has lived next door to the victims for more than 20 years. He described seeing Lee pedal up to the home and then hearing the two shots.

“They opened the door, and he come, and he shot and that’s it," Paccettie said. "Just shot, cold blood shot.”

Family members who spoke to Faherty said they are still in shock.

"It's just something you see on the news or on TV and you don't think it would happen to your family," Lucas Lor said.

Last year, Lee was accused of going to a local business in town and terrorizing workers with a pistol. The charges were later dropped.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting, but said Lee and the victims knew each other.
