Suspect steals Jeep with 14-month-old inside in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A Jeep was stolen Sunday afternoon from a convenience store in Burke County with a 14-month-old inside, deputies said.

Deputies were called to the Jack-B-Quick/Marathon station at exit 116 on I-40, where the Jeep had been stolen while the victim was paying for gas.

The stolen Jeep was found a few minutes later at a Burger King across the street. The child was still in the vehicle and unharmed.

A witness told deputies the suspects were seen driving away in a black Mazda 3.

Catawba County deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description on Wesley Chapel Road in Newton and three suspects were detained until Burke County deputies arrived and took the trio into custody.

Deputies said the three confessed to the crime.

Nolan Weaver faces several charges, including second-degree kidnapping and larceny of a motor vehicle. Dallas Hopkins and Christy Gonzalez-Rodriquez are charged with accessory after the fact.
