SUV passenger dies months after crash in Ballantyne, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — A woman who was the passenger in an SUV has died more than three months after a serious crash in Ballantyne, investigators said.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the crash happened on Oct. 25, 2022 around 2:15 p.m. Officers found four vehicles had collided in the intersection of Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Ballantyne Medical Place.

Investigators believe the driver of a 2010 Toyota Highlander was turning left from Ballantyne Commons Parkway onto Ballantyne Medical Place. They said as he was making the turn, the SUV was hit on the front right passenger side by a 1998 Ford Mustang.

Police said after that initial crash, the SUV continued on, hitting two other vehicles.

CMPD said they learned a passenger in the Highlander, Mythili Mulpuru, 73, died on Feb. 4 from the injuries she suffered in the crash.

Authorities said as they continue to investigate, they need anyone with information to come forward. They asked witnesses and anyone else who might know something to call Det.
