LENOIR, N.C. — A teenager pleaded guilty to beating his own mother to death Monday.
Police said Austin Hunsucker used a golf club to beat her in their Granite Falls home last year.
The teenager will spend at least 16 years behind bars in the beating death of his mother.
Nick Hunsucker, 19, stood before the judge and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder also admitting that the death was heinous and cruel.
Prosecutors said he beat his mother, Kathy Eller, to death inside her apartment in Dec. of 2011.
For the first time, Channel 9 heard that the teenager called 911 saying his mother had a seizure and fell down the stairs.
But deputies said when they got there they found two broken golf clubs with blood on them.
In court Monday, Channel 9 could clearly see the teenager fight back tears during the testimony about his mother's death.
He spoke briefly in court.
"I would just like to say that I'm sorry," Hunsucker said.
