Teenager charged after driver found shot in car in Shelby

SHELBY, N.C. — Police in Shelby said they have charged a teenager in an early morning shooting.

Officers said they were called to the scene of a car accident on Clegg Street around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday and found the driver with a gunshot wound.

The victim, Tiyquisha Jackson, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Detectives said they identified Corey Brown, 17, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Brown is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center with no bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the crime and said more arrests are possible.
