U-Haul truck used to smash into 2 Mount Holly pawn shops

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — Police are looking for two men who they said used a U-Haul truck to ram their way into two pawn shops overnight in Mount Holly.

Police responded to the Mount Holly Gun and Pawn shop on E. Henry Street in Belmont at 2:47 a.m. When officers arrived they found the front door glass had been broken out.

Surveillance video showed two men in a white GMC U-Haul truck ramming the door and then entering the building where they took several items, including black powder rifles and TVs, before fleeing.

Then at 3:08 a.m. officers responded to the EZ Pawn shop on W. Charlotte Avenue in Mount Holly where the rear roll-up door had been broken into.

"I'm surprised they have done it again. I don’t know why people would be stupid enough try to break into a place that's got good security," neighbor Ronald Webb said.

Surveillance video showed two men backing a white U-Haul truck into the doors of the business. That’s when a man entered the business and appeared to take a TV before fleeing in the truck, police said.

Both men appeared to be wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered with masks.

"They got in here last time, got some guns," Webb said.

CMPD later found the truck at a park in Charlotte. The truck was taken from University City Tires following a break-in at that location, police said.

Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
