Charlotte 49ers going to Clemson for NCAA Baseball Tournament

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte 49ers won’t have to go very far for the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is going to Clemson, South Carolina, for tournament regionals. The Clemson Tigers are hosting one of the 16 regional sites across the country.

During the selection show aired Monday on ESPN2, the 49ers got slated with Clemson, Tennessee, and Lipscomb. Sixty-four teams are participating in the tournament ahead of the College World Series on June 16 in Omaha, Nebraska.

UNC-Charlotte is coming into the tournament after winning the Conference USA Championship this past weekend. The team beat Dallas Baptist University on Saturday, earning the 49ers their first Conference USA title in over 20 years.

But the 49ers are a bit of an underdog with the fewest wins of the four teams in the Clemson regional. Charlotte’s record of 34-26 is fairly close to Lipscomb’s at 36-24, but Clemson is entering the tournament with a 43-17 record.

Charlotte’s first game is at 6 p.m. on June 2 versus Tennessee.

You’ll be able to buy tickets to 49ers games starting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday by clicking this link.

The winner of the Clemson regional will go on to play the winner of the Auburn regional. See the full list of regional sites at this link.
