Video shows man ‘terrorizing’ north Charlotte auto shops

CHARLOTTE — The owners of three different mechanic shops in north Charlotte say a man is terrorizing their shops and has done so for months.

Video obtained by Channel 9′s Hunter Sáenz shows a man with a chain breaking into one of the shops along a plaza. One video shows the man with a large metal chain throwing his backpack. Another video shows a man running up to a shop after hours and breaking in, appearing to steal tools.

The owners that have dealt with issues believe the same person is in numerous videos. One owner said he has even been threatened by the man.

Channel 9 reported at noon on Tuesday after an incident happened on Monday. After that original story aired, shop owners say the man went back Tuesday afternoon and set two cars on fire.

One video showed the man slamming a building with the large chain as the panicked business owner hid and called police. By the time officers arrived, the guy was already gone.

“It’s an everyday thing,” said Joshua Velazquez, who co-owns Unique Window Tint and Body Shop next door.

Velazquez and other business owners along the row of shops on N. Tryon Street say they’ve been dealing with the same man for months. Pedro Garcia, who owns Multi Muffler and Auto Service at the corner of the building, believes this is the same person who ran up to his shop last Thursday and broke into the building.

Garcia says they’ve all called police dozens of times in the last five months, but police had told them they couldn’t do much. The shop owners said their biggest fear is not being able to get away in time.

According to the shop owners, the man was taken into custody by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after the cars were set on fire Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Channel 9 learned that the man had been arrested for breaking and entering, and larceny. He was identified as Juan Jose Rosales-Auxume.

Police arrested Rosales-Auxume at the scene after the cars were set on fire. He’s being held in the Mecklenburg County jail on a $2,500 bond.
