Thief targets boy's toy tractors three times

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a thief after a 4-year-old boy had his toy tractor stolen three times.

"I'm angry," the boy's mother Erin Sikes said. "I feel very unnerved in my own home."

She bought his first tractor for Christmas last year and it was stolen from the home in March.

Sheriff's deputies were so moved by the crying boy that they worked together to get him this replacement tractor.

His parents also bought him one after his was taken but about a month ago someone took off with that one, as well.

"This is kind of personal," Capt. Joel Shores said. "Turn yourself in. We are going to catch you."

The parents of the child had set up a surveillance camera after the first theft.

Sikes got an alert Wednesday and helplessly watched this scene play out live on her phone, a thief grabbing the tractor.

Shores said police are looking for an older-model white Grand Prix that got on Highway 18 headed toward Shelby.
