CHARLOTTE — A high-speed crash in Uptown was caught on camera early Saturday morning.
The video shows a black car smash into a sports bar just before 3 a.m. on North College Street.
Elizabeth Graham, who lives nearby, told Channel 9’s Eli Brand she was shaken after witnessing the crash.
“I heard, like, a loud boom. I thought something had fallen in my apartment really loud,” she said. “So, I looked out the window, and I hear screaming, and I see a car crashed into this window.”
Days after the crash, you can still see damage to the building. The window is shattered, the sign for the bar is knocked down and the fence is still damaged. Even a piece of the car remains at the scene.
Graham says incidents like this aren’t uncommon near her home. She sent instances of several other things happening right outside her window this year, including two stabbings and a head-on crash. She also says she has consistently seen street racing on College Street.
“We hear the mufflers; we hear them burning out,” she said. “It’s consistently every week, every night.”
Graham says she fears for her own safety when she’s outside and hopes more police or security can be added to the street.
“I have to walk my dog. I’ve had to pull my dog back in so that we don’t get hit by people going 50 miles per hour on this street,” she said. “It’s very unsettling. I’ve seen other people almost get hit.”
MEDIC says one was taken to the hospital from this crash, but Graham says she wants something done before this happens again.
